Picotan v1.2 Released
Thanks to everyone who has been enjoying the game. I've been seeing some truly astounding scores and players reaching 300+ levels (one person apparently exceeded 1000!).
I still have plans to implement a better high score tracking system but PICO-8 doesn't make this easy so I can't promise anything. I'd also like to update the sound and add some music, but that will have to be in a later update. In the meantime, enjoy!
What's new?
I've added several QoL updates based on player feedback, as well as improved some of the visuals. I've also updated the options menu with new features:
- Difficulty: Increasing difficulty will result in more bricks with higher HP spawning
- Aim Assist: Increases number of reflections of aim trajectory
- Screen Shake: Can be toggled on/off
- Theme: Choose between 5 basic themes (more may be added later)
- Reset Top Score: Does what it says on the tin
What happened to the End Turn option?
As a result, I moved the "End Turn" option out of the menu and made it a button that appears when balls are launched. This should make it more intuitive and apparent to players that they can skip to the next turn if they don't want to wait, either by pressing X or clicking on the button with the mouse / touch input. Right-clicking the mouse will skip the turn as well.
Wait, v1.2? What happened to Picotan v1.1?
Nobody knows...
